Noir is one of the most well-known mystery forms. It harkens back to black and white films where gumshoes and femme fatales played in the mean streets of the city. Detectives were complicated—but so were the mysteries they were solving. Everything was laced with atmosphere and ambiance. Noir’s recent resurgence allows for more depth of storytelling across all genres, not just mystery. In this session, we’ll look at the basics of noir and learn how to create our own noir stories in the twenty-first century.
