Andes Café is the East End's newest spot. The laid-back eatery showcases food from the South American countries that run the span of the Andes mountain range: Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Venezuela.
Despite the affordable price tag and the BYO policy, Chef David Guerrero dishes out a menu that’s pure gold. Start off with an Andes cappuccino which comes with a splash of lucuma (a Peruvian fruit) syrup.
Next, head to the ceviche bar and discover the variety of regional takes on this classic dish. A fast-favorite among regulars is the Concha negra ceviche, a hefty bowl of traditional Ecuadorian ceviche made with fresh black clams, pickled red onions, tomatoes, cilantro and olive oil in a marinade of lime juice, ketchup and mustard. The dish comes alongside popcorn, fried plantains and toasted corn.
For the main course try the Tamal de paiche, yellow corn dough stuffed with Amazonian river fish (paiche), eggs and olives and steamed inside a banana leaf. It's served with pickled red onions, lime, aji pepper and cilantro. For those who like potato salad, try the Papa a la Huancaina. Think sliced potatoes covered in a rich, slightly spicy cheese sauce and topped with sliced boiled eggs and olives.
Hungry? Breakfast and lunch are served Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and dinner through 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
