Fresh-faced students, med-center professionals and West U residents fill Yun and Hubert Cheng’s Azuma restaurant daily for innovative sushi and skewered selections from the charcoal-fueled robata grill.
Located in a small strip center along Kirby Drive, next door to Abejas boutique, Azuma remains the flagship for the Cheng’s restaurant empire. (The brothers are also responsible for two more Azuma locations, Soma on Washington Avenue and the nearby Kata Robata.) Inside, raw-wood beams, bamboo chairs and soft lighting impart a warmly-inviting vibe. Take a cue from regulars and go for the Crazy Irishman—a flash-fried roll filled with salmon, tuna and avocado inside green soybean paper. In addition to sushi, Azuma also has a solid line-up of robata offerings, traditional Japanese dishes and specialty cocktails.
Azuma is open for lunch and dinner, daily.
