Part restaurant, part hot happy-hour scene, the newest Benjy's spot was quick to find a loyal following on Washington Avenue’s party scene when it opened in early 2009. Much like it’s polished Rice Village sibling, the stylish eatery serves up Benjy’s delicious new American cuisine in a casual, neighborhood-oriented atmosphere.
Lunch and dinner menus change frequently, highlighted by fresh Asian and Latin flavors. Some of the signature dishes from Benjy’s original location carry over to the new location. Small plates include oven-roasted Brie and portabello enchiladas and crispy tuna spring rolls. Large plates include the pecan- and pistachio-crusted chicken with mixed potato gratin; hoisin beef and tiger shrimp on rice noodles with Thai red curry sauce; and three-cheese risotto torta.
The new two-story location offers guests more space than the Rice Village Benjy’s, both inside and out. There’s an expansive dining room downstairs and lounge upstairs. Outside, there’s plenty of seating on the spacious patio. Expect an award-winning wine list that’s well-organized and features hard-to-find vintages and plenty of by-the-glass options.
