Downtown welcomes a new gastropub where meat and beer are king. Bovine and Barley might best be known for its appearance before you ever set foot inside. A large wall-sized lit up letters reading “HTX” is spread across the exposed-brick walls.
The menu tantalizes with meaty options like BBQ pork ribs, brisket hoagie, meatloaf “muffins” and jalapeno mashed potatoes, brisket tacos, beef burgers, and grilled tenderloin. The bar also offers salads, a selection of seafood, appetizers and homemade deserts. Wash all of that down with 42 distinct beer taps prominently featuring local Houston breweries.
Michael Collins (of The Refinery: Burgers & Whiskey and The Fish) and Jason Lowery (Proof Bar) transformed their 3,400-square-feet space just around the corner from Main Street into a rustic hometown favorite.
During lunchtime hours, Bovine offers a brown bag special for $9 that features the chef’s daily sandwich, chips, and a cookie.
