Each year, Dance Houston stages its signature event by the same name, which is a citywide festival of dance featuring more than a dozen dance companies. Other regular events include hip hop dance events, ballroom performances, youth showcases and more.
The goal of Dance Houston is to increase dance appreciation across the city by making the art form more accessible and fostering collaboration between groups. Since its founding in 2003, the organization has introduced thousands of existing dance enthusiasts and newcomers alike to a broad spectrum of dance.
Events are held in a multitude of venues, from the George R. Brown Convention Center to the Wortham Center to Miller Outdoor Theatre. Now, Dance Houston is reaching beyond the city limits to tell the story of Houston as a diverse hub of dance and creativity to those elsewhere through ongoing performances in other cities.
Dance Houston’s “No Limits” summer camp serves 80 youth with instruction by star dancers. The group also provides free dances classes at "Totally Fit!", a program for young girls and their families who are economically disadvantaged and struggling with obesity.
