With a new location in CityCentre, International Smoke is one of the latest national restaurants to open in Houston. The brainchild of Michael Mina and Ayesha Curry (yes, Steph Curry’s wife), International Smoke aims to offer a culinary experience through the art of grilling while using locally-sourced products. Curry described the restaurant’s concept saying, “Grilling is the perfect way to experiment and taste different flavors, cuts of meat, and styles of cooking.” With each menu item, Curry works to achieve a feeling of nostalgia similar to that outdoor family grilling. Using elements of fire, grilling and smoke, different spices are infused to create big flavors throughout their menu.
International Smoke offers a large selection of shellfish, like gulf shrimp, oysters, lobster tail, king crab and more. There are plenty of greens and grains to choose from with tabbouleh, burrata, a classic wedge and other options for anyone looking for lighter fare. Hawaiian-inspired bacon, Tokoyo-style smoked and fried chicken thighs, Wagyu beef with báhn mi pickles and Dungeness crab with red curry soup round out the appetizer options. International Smoke’s meat is not to be missed with USDA Prime, dry-aged beef, Wagyu New York strip and Hawaiian kanpachi. Main dishes include short ribs, salmon, chicken, pork belly, all complemented by interesting and exciting spices and rubs. If you aren’t in the mood for meat, the small plates are sure to please. Enjoy shisito peppers, papaya slaw, mushrooms with ginger and soy, garlic-fried rice, duck fat French fries and a smoked rib tip mac and cheese. Not to mention the Sunday brunch, serving boas ribs, chicken and waffles and more, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a live band. International Smokehouse is open Monday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 5 to 11 p.m. with a happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and a reverse happy hour from 9 to 11 p.m.
