Among the clutch of new Historic District hotspots along Main Street, everyone's got a gimmick—from the Mexico City-inspired tequila joint Pastry War to the New Orleans-esque Honeymoon. If something was missing, it was a laid back bar, the no-frills watering hole, if you will. And who better to execute that concept than the folks behind Montrose's Poison Girl? Debuting in fall 2013, Little Dipper offers a well-culled cocktail list, plus a wide and impressive assortment of beers and wines, in a very open environment. There are plenty of couches and tables beyond the barstools for those looking to gather with a small group of friends for happy hour or to wind down the night. Indeed Little Dipper is decidedly low-key in comparison to its hipster haven sister Poison Girl. Might that change as Downtown grows as the place to be for Houston nightlife? Perhaps. But for now, enjoy the cozy if boozy vibe. Expect to find daily happy hour specials and maybe a few interactive games to keep you entertained.
