Matcha Cafe Maiko

Matcha lovers rejoiced with the arrival of the Houston outpost of Matcha Cafe Maiko, a Hawaiian chain solely dedicated to this popular powdered green tea. Located in Chinatown, the cafe has a full menu of matcha-infused beverages and desserts.

Wood and metal accents give the cafe a modern, earthy feel. Menu highlights include the “Shogun,” a gold-covered matcha ice cream cone that’s totally Instagram-worthy. Drinks range from a basic matcha tea to matcha frappes, floats and lattes. The Japanese-inspired cafe sources its matcha from Uji, a place in southern Kyoto renowned for its high-quality matcha. Visitors can also choose their drinks with hoji tea, a type of green tea that is spicier and full-bodied.

Matcha Cafe Maiko is open Sunday through Thursday from noon to 10 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 11 p.m.
