After nearly three decades in Houston, Met Dance (formerly Houston Metropolitan Dance Center) has grown to become one of the city’s largest resident performing arts companies.
Met Dance comprises a professional dance company as well as a youth company and strong community outreach and education programs. The professional company performs annually on some of Houston’s top stages and travels the country performing works by some of today’s most influential and talented choreographers.
In 2013 Met Dance moved to its new state-of-the-art facility in Midtown, dramatically expanding its capacity for youth and public classes. With four studios, more than 30 instructors and nearly 500 adult students each week, the Met Dance Center is always bustling. Public classes for children and adults of all ages and skill levels are offered Monday through Saturday. Classes include hip hop, modern, ballet and more.
In addition to frequent appearances throughout Houston and the surrounding area, Met Dance has performed at the Great Friends Dance Festival, Dance St. Louis, the Baruch Performing Arts Center during the REVERB Dance Festival, the Boston Contemporary Dance Festival, the Inside/Out Series at Jacob’s Pillow and Dance Chicago and others.
