What do you get when you combine two acclaimed local coffeehouses and a donut expert? The folks behind Blacksmith, Greenway Coffee, and Donald’s Donuts created Morningstar, all-day brunch spot in the Heights.
Morningstar specializes in custom homemade donuts. Sam Phan, described as a “donut jedi”, brings his baking expertise to the menu with flavors like Pomegranate Cream-filled, pineapple fritter with salted lime and chile, dark chocolate, custard cake, and Cinnamon & Palm Sugar. Morningstar’s kitchen will be managed by Blacksmith’s Priscilla Nguyen and includes dishes like Korean steak and eggs, honey-butter biscuit with sambal, breakfast sandwiches, BBQ brisket kolaches, and rice bowls. Of course the menu also includes the premium coffees and teas the made Blacksmith and Greenway famous.
Jim Herd, designer of Blacksmith and Rice Box, gave Morningstar a chic cedar-paneled look with high bar stools and exposed ceiling. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and an early dinner (4pm close time) seven days a week.
