The third iteration of James Beard award-winning chef Chris Shepherd’s ambitious One Fifth restaurant opened in August 2018, called One Fifth: Mediterranean, bringing Houstonians a taste of the cuisine of the eastern Mediterranean and northern Africa.
The interior of the Montrose restaurant has been revamped to fit the new concept, as it has been for previous iterations of the space. White walls dotted with textured white tiles and blue trim recall the Mediterranean and the main dining room features patterns inspired by the region.
Shepherd and chef de cuisine Matt Staph have created a menu with a selection of dips, mezze and meats and vegetables cooked on the fire. Pastry chef Victoria Dearmond has also developed a tasty dessert menu inspired by the region, which features pecan baklava with peaches and labneh custard and babka.
Opened in January 2017, One Fifth is a five-year project by Shepherd and his business partners Kevin Floyd, Whitney Mercilus and Steve Flippo, that features a different restaurant concept each year. Prior to One Fifth Mediterranean, Shepherd centered on French, Italian and Spanish cuisine at One Fifth Romance Languages and on steak during his inaugural concept.
One Fifth is open Sunday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.
