From the creators of Oporto Wine Café and Queen Vic Pub & Kitchen, husband and wife team Rick and Shiva Di Virgilio have opened Oporto Fooding House & Wine in the heart of Midtown.
At 4,300 square feet, the larger space has enabled the pair to expand their menu, making room for a unique cuisine of Portuguese and Indian fusion. Foodies will find menu items like Cataplana de Mexilhoes (black mussels with sofrito, vinho verde wine and garlic butter), Feijao con Fideos (pasta and gigante bean stew with kale, feta and almond romesco) and Peixinhos de horta (rice-crisped squid and shrimp and tempura green beans).
In addition to the main entrees, guests will also find a menu of “petiscos”, or Portuguese small plates, that include stuffed dates, fingerling potatoes and chutney and house-cured grilled sardines with salsa verde and pickled vegetables.
Pop over from 4 to 6:30PM for happy hour and enjoy cheap specialty cocktails like the Argentini Martini made with vodka, curacao, lemon sour and a layer of Malbec wine, or sample a drink from the Caipirinha bar. Additional happy hour specials include fresh gulf coast oysters, and light bites like mini burgers, smoked salmon crostinis and caprese salads, all between $5-9.
