What started as a modest BBQ food truck has now become one of Houston’s most acclaimed barbecue purveyors. Pappa Charlies Barbeque specializes in Central Texas-style barbecue, homemade sausage, and varies side favorites. Pitmaster Wesley Jurena has established a loyal following around town after years of grilling out of his trailer in the Heights and Montrose neighborhoods.
Jurena has always been an avid pitmaster. He made the craft his hobby taking his recipe and technique to barbecue festivals across the state. After a great deal of success and awards, he left his full time job to start the Pappa Charlies BBQ food truck, a culinary staple around bars downtown. The restaurant, named after Jurena’s father, sources meat locally and specializes in a high heat method at a shorter length of time leaving the meat tender with a flavorful exterior.
Pappa Charlies new EaDo headquarters offers extensive seating with big-screen TVs and locally brewed beers. Be sure to try his famous fall off the bone brisket and maple syrup-glazed pork ribs.
