Principal oboist Alecia Lawyer founded the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra in 2005, bringing together all-star musicians from the U.S. and Canada. Comprised of 40 talented performers, distinguished conductors and famous composers, ROCO aims to entertain, educate and engage its audiences with interactive performances.

Though the organization does not have a permanent conductor, guest conductors and famous composers are invited to lead the orchestra during shows throughout the year. Together, they present unexpected classics, original compositions and engaging concerts in spectacular venues such as St. John the Divine, Bayou Bend and the Musuem of Fine Arts, among others.

The ground-breaking group is also known for its forward-thinking programming like its intimate salon concerts, wine-and-music events and ROCOrooters—a music education and childcare program that runs concurrent with and after 5 p.m. concerts.
