Montrose’s Ship & Shield will never be accused of blending in. The full-service restaurant and bar boasts a Viking theme, complete with a ship bar and shield tables.
Pass through the arched gates along West Gray where a relaxing patio makes room for a fire pit and a stand-up game bar with Hnefatafl (the Viking Kings game) and two chess boards. A 32-foot bocce ball court flanks the building, steps from outdoor dining. Venture inside, beyond the hand-carved dragon head, and grab a seat in the candle-lit dining room. On the evolving menu, guests will find wild game options (elk, reindeer and rabbit, for example) and signature items like the wild boar sandwich and the Odin’s Egg, a hard-boiled egg wrapped in Norwegian smoked salmon, breaded and deep fried.
Ship & Shield is open for dinner, daily.
