Montrose Parties

The gayborhood may not light up officially for the lucky holiday but within walking distance is one of the most notorious events in Houston at Griff’s Irish Pub. This day-long event is always crowded with revelers and offers everything from Jell-O wrestling to live music and food. When you’re finished you can join your friends over at the Eagle or JR’s, just one neighborhood over.

Downtown Celebrations

Head downtown around noon on March 16th for the 60th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Since the official holiday is on a Sunday this year, Houstonians start out the celebration on Saturday. This free two-hour parade is one of the largest in the U.S. with over 100 entries to delight the Irish and the Irish at heart. The Houston St. Patrick’s Parade Commission has been organizing this parade since the beginning and it’s a must-do. Market Square Park will also be holding a more family-friendly event afterward with fun games and a live concert, free to the public.

For those insisting green beer on March 17th consider Lucky’s Pub St. Patrick’s Day Festival also located downtown. This annual event starts early at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 a.m. If you’re an early bird, a healthy breakfast of Lucky Charms and breakfast tacos will be provided when it begins. For folks that want a more luxury experience, limited tickets are available for the Luxury Lodge. The event promises three stages featuring 10 bands and DJ’s all day long.

Midtown Pub Crawl

Make a St. Patrick’s Day of your own and grab some friends for the St Paddy’s Day Pub Crawl in Midtown. Participating venues include The Dogwood, Belle Station, Little Woodrows, Maple Leaf Pub, Howl at the Moon, Sage County, and more. Make sure to catch a ride or the rail to the festivities though. These events tend to end up in literal crawling.

These neighborhood celebrations are certainly a great start but relatively every Irish pub in Houston will be having some sort of celebration to offer. Take a look on the MyGayHouston website for the event closest to you and always make sure to have a designated driver!
