In the heart of our bustling metropolis is a 55-acre oasis serving as home to more than 6,000 animals from over 900 species. Of course, we are talking about the impressive Houston Zoo. Located within Hermann Park between the Medical Center and the Museum District, the Houston Zoo is an exciting outing for the whole family and receives more than 2.1 million visitors per year, making it the second most visited zoo in the United States.

Welcome to the Jungle

Whether you are interested in primates, amphibians or anything in between, the Houston Zoo has an exhibit for you to explore. With more than 6,000 animals you can walk the park and learn more about common animals like the African Lion (their roar can be heard up to five miles away!) and the unusual Naked Mole Rat (they live up to 30 years!). Also, there are more than 15 exhibits where you can feed giraffes, interact with sea lions and allow your children to get one-on-one time with wildlife at the children’s petting zoo.

More Than Just a Zoo

The Houston Zoo doesn’t just boast a wide array of animals but the zoo hosts a variety of events for Houstonians to enjoy. Coming up, the zoo is having events like an Ice Fest, Silent Disco, Champagne Parties and much more! Additionally, on certain nights during the hot months, the zoo will stay open until 8 p.m. so people can wander the park without dealing with the summer heat.

The Houston Zoo offers an adventurous afternoon for all. Whether you are visiting, or live in the Bayou City, be sure to spend a day at the zoo and meet some furry friends!
