From the culinary talents that brought Mexican fare to Montrose residents for nearly 15 years at Bocados, Terry Flores and Lily Hernandez are on to their next venture with Red Ox Bar and Grill. Patrons can still expect handmade salsas, Timothy’s Favorite Flautas and fresh, in-shop corn, whole-wheat and regular flour tortillas. But with the opening of Red Ox, the chefs have expanded their culinary offerings to include more eclectic menu options like Chorizo burgers, blackened tilapia, Cuban sandwiches and walnut pear salad.
Ingredients used are sourced regionally in an effort to support local farmers and a fresh herb garden lines the patio for use in the kitchen. As an added bonus, the patio is four-legged friendly for those with pooches.
Though Red Ox is new, the restaurant incorporates the history of its new community in the Heights. The 1950’s building – once a grocery store, lounge and sports bar—incorporates rustic touches like the 1900’s antique door, the tabletops made from old bowling alleys and reclaimed wood lining the interior.
