Another Houston Tourism Summit is in the books, and with record attendance! The annual summit, hosted by Houston First, was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center on March 27. This year's 704 attendees surpassed last year's record number of 612, and that's good news for the entire city.
Each year the summit brings together key leaders in the travel and tourism industry to foster connections and partnerships that help bring more leisure visitors to Houston. Conference attendees were able to get information, access leading travel and tourism professionals, network, and enjoy great food and prizes.
Workshops and speakers help spark inspiration and knowledge. Some of the main speakers included Houston Astros President of Business Operations, Reid Ryan, and Don Welsh, head of Destinations International, as well as Council Member David Robinson. Houston First and Visit Houston were also well represented at the podium. Houston First President and CEO, Brenda Bazan, Visit Houston President Mike Waterman, HFC Board Chairperson David Mincberg, and Senior Vice President of Tourism, Jorge Franz, all had a moment at the microphone.
The tourism future looks bright for Houston. There were 21.8 million visits to the city in 2017, and our goal is to hit 25 million by 2020. With successful summits like this, that goal looks to be within reach!
