If voters approve a proposed public bond package in November, Houston's parks will get some much needed green.
The $410 million bond package would include $160 million for improvements to bayous and parks. City officials say the money will go a long way to connecting, expanding and improving parks citywide. Voters head to the polls November 6.
The initiative has actually spawned an organization that hopes to raise awareness about the benefits of the bond proposal. The citizens coalition Parks By You has put together a campaign to push for voter approval. A series of events is also being organized.
The September 6 First Thursday Block Party in Midtown will include the grand opening of the Parks By You campaign headquarters. Music, food and shopping will start at 6 p.m. The Mid Main Corridor's Natachee's, Tacos a-Go Go, Sparrow Bar & Cookshop, Sig's Lagoon, My Flaming Heart, Julia's and The Continental club are all donating 5% of their sales the afternoon of September 6 to Parks By You.
