Over the past decade, the craft beer scene has really come into its own in Houston, making it a beer-lovers paradise... in Texas. Isn't there just something SO right about that? Warm summer days are easily escaped by ducking into one of the 25+ craft breweries in the area. Oh yes, we stay hydrated quite well. Here are some of the most popular breweries in Houston.

Saint Arnold Brewing Company

It seems right to start with Texas’ oldest craft brewery. Since the first keg was shipped in 1994, Saint Arnold Brewing Company has become one of the most popular breweries in Houston, brewing some of the best beer sold in Texas and Louisiana. Art Car IPA, an American IPA featuring a blend of both new and old hop varieties from the Pacific Northwest, is currently Saint Arnold’s most popular offering of 12 year-round beers, while six seasonal beers and a few exclusives create a well-rounded lineup. Saint Arnold opened up a huge beer garden next to the original brewery in 2018. With a full-service restaurant, all of their beers on tap, tons of space for the kids and pets to frolic, this spot continues to prove itself as a consistent Houston staple.

The brewery itself is open for tours, which are free to attend and reservations are not required, on Mondays and Thursdays 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays at 1:00 p.m., 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m, and 7:00 p.m. The beer garden and restaurant are open seven days a week, with varying hours and menus.

Located just a couple of miles from Downtown Houston, Eureka Heights Brewing Co. has some solid suds and a great environment to lounge. The beers are unique and strive to be approachable. With lower ABV%, you can enjoy more without needing someone to cart you off the property. Their seasonal stouts are delicious, and the rotation of food trucks is on point. 8th Wonder Brewery

8th Wonder Brewery

Not included in the Brew Pass, but still worth a visit is 8th Wonder Brewery. Named after the “Eight Wonder of the World,” the Astrodome, 8th Wonder is a champion for Houston sports, music, and beer. Located in EaDo, 8th Wonder offers six year-round beers, seasonal beers, and limited releases. The brewery also showcases local bands, local food trucks, and many annual events. $18 gets you three beer tokens and a souvenir pint glass, and $7 gets you one beer token in a 16 oz. plastic cup. Beer flights are offered, as well as THC seltzer flights. The best way to find out about events is through the website or on social media.

In the heart of Garden Oaks in The Heights, Great Heights Brewing Company provides hand-crafted beer in a chill, cantina-lit, sweet-tune-music-playing atmosphere. B52 sports a a patio bar, guest cider and mead from Texas breweries, and a rotating selection of wine.

City Acre Brewing

City Acre Brewing is a brewpub situated on an acre of land off Hwy 59, ten minutes north of downtown Houston. With rotating taps of seasonal beers as well as specialty bombers available, City Acre focuses on small-batch, hand-crafted beers. This rustic taproom features weekend brunch, outdoor seating, and ingredients that are locally sourced or grown on the property for the taps and for the chef’s extensive and ever-changing menu.

City Orchard

Three like-minded Houstonians came together with the simple objective to create the best craft ciders from the best ingredients in a welcoming environment. City Orchard features year round and seasonal offerings as well as a packed calendar with a variety of events. Also fun to note: this cidery is family and dog friendly.

Equal Parts Brewing

Equal Parts prides itself on focusing on community. They brew and serve a wide variety of beers, none of which contain any processed food - only whole, natural, ingredients. This cozy taproom is situated in a vintage East End warehouse with original wooden floors, window frames, and a front-row view of the brewhouse and cellar.

Galveston Island Brewing (GIB) is Galveston’s premiere craft brewery featuring an onsite taproom, as well as games and a playground make this brewery a well-rounded family affair. New Magnolia Brewing is a family-owned and operated brewery located in the Historic Heights neighborhood. Founded in 2018, and brewed into existence November 2019, and inspired by the original Magnolia Brewery, once located on Buffalo Bayou in downtown Houston. They strive to bring attention to the historical significance of Houston beer and the cultural impact beer had on the early days of Houston.
