Modern theater is at home at Catastrophic Theatre, an ensemble-based company that was founded in 2007.
Without a permanent stage to play on, it is the “theatre in residence” at DiverseWorks Artspace where it usually performs. Focused on producing new works with an emphasis on the emotional experience, Catastrophic Theatre covers a wide range of themes in its performances.
Catastrophic's ensemble is made up of untrained as well as professional actors that communicate these intense, darkly comedic, and provocative plays. Productions encourage questioning and diverse interpretations, based on each individual’s background.
In order to promote Houston as an arts destination and bring the community together, tickets are sold on a "pay what you can" basis. $20 is the suggested ticket price but the patron makes the ultimate decision about what he/she can afford to give.
