Alley Theatre
The Alley was founded more than sixty years ago by visionary Nina Vance as Houston's theatre company. It exists to provide audiences with the highest quality theatre, offering a wide variety of work including new plays, classics, the re-discovered and the rarely-performed, and new musical theatre, with an emphasis on new American works – to provide the inspirational and the provocative – to make our audiences think, feel, dream and be entertained. The Alley Theatre is one of the few American theatre companies that supports a company of actors, designers, artisans and craftspeople throughout the year. The productions are built and rehearsed in the Alley Theatre Center for Theatre Production – a 75,000 square foot facility adjacent to the theaters themselves – that is state-of-the-art and one of the most complete and largest facilities of its kind anywhere. On the two stages – the 824 seat Hubbard Stage and the 310 seat Neuhaus Stage – the Alley presents a wide-ranging repertoire of eleven productions each season, including the new production of A Christmas Carol . The Alley is also home to educational programs, where they connect with the youth of the city and state – future audience and future artists – through programs such as From Stage to Page, HYPE (Houston Young Playwrights Exchange) and the Young Performers Studio. Throughout its history, the Alley has earned a national and international reputation for artistic achievement, including the Tony Award, and Alley artists have garnered praise from audiences across the country. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Gregory Boyd and new Managing Director Dean Gladden, the Alley is committed to moving forward to increase its reach into the community, to further its collaboration with the best theatre artists working today, and to encourage and cultivate the new voices, new work, new artists of the American theatre. The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts
The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts is a state-of-the-art, $100 million theater complex anchoring Houston’s Theater District. Designed by American architect Robert Stern, the Hobby Center features two distinguished theaters; Fayez Sarofim Hall, a 2,650 seat theatre, home to Theatre Under the Stars and Broadway in Houston, and Selim K. Zilkha Hall, a 500 seat proscenium theater known nationwide for its warm acoustic and home to the Uniquely Houston® Series. There are various locations within the Hobby Center available for hosting events including receptions, seated dinners, company events, lectures, weddings, private concerts and more. Founder's Club Plush red carpeting, ornate fixtures and wall-to-wall windows providing extraordinary views of downtown Houston create the warm elegance of the Founders Club. To facilitate hosting a large reception or a small meeting, the room can be subdivided into five smaller areas. This striking Art Deco inspired space is the perfect space for any size gathering. The Founders Club is located on the Mezzanine Level. Grand Lobby The Grand Lobby of Sarofim Hall brings the outdoors in with its breathtaking panoramic view of downtown Houston. The six story glass facade allows natural daylight or the evening's golden glow to illuminate the entire space. The lobby doors open to a spacious outdoor terrace. The Grand Lobby is the perfect venue for lavish seated dinners, luncheons or receptions and has hosted galas, awards ceremonies, broadcasts, business meetings, as well as weddings. Sarofim Hall With its rich blue color and soaring gold leaf columns, the design of Sarofim Hall echoes those of legendary Broadway theatres. The unique dome ceiling glows with some 2,000 fiber optic stars reproducing the summer nighttime sky over Houston's Hermann Park, birthplace of Theatre Under the Stars. Keep your eye peeled for a shooting star every five minutes. The Ruth B. Bauer Stage in Sarofim Hall is a magical and dramatic destination for any seated dinner or cocktail reception. Sarofim Hall can serve as a private events area on its own or in conjunction with the Hobby Center's Grand Lobby. Zilkha Hall Zilkha Hall is a singularly beautiful jewel box theater with warm deep rose colors and cherry wood accents. The theater seats 500 and lends itself to a variety of event needs. Zilkha Hall's stage is a unique and creative option for seated dinners, meetings and other gatherings, ideal for adding a new angle to your next corporate event. The lobby can also serve as a private reception area in tandem with another space or on its own. Zilkha Lobby Just outside the doors of the audience chamber, the rich red colors of Zilkha Hall flow into this airy, light-filled space. The lobby has its own private entrance accessible from street level and can also be reached inside via a walkway from the Sarofim Ticket Lobby. The Zilkha Hall Lobby has its own concessions center as well as its own ticketing center, and has been the scene for intimate cocktail functions, pre and post program dinners, lunches, and breakfast meetings.
