The Brazosport area has a number of fishing opportunities for the casual sportsman or the avid angler. The unique location of this area makes different types of fishing possible with relatively easy access. Here are four fun places to catch the big one just a short drive from Houston.

Bastrop Bayou Public Fishing Area

590 County Road 476, Freeport, 77541

Fishing from a bank or a small boat is the easiest and most convenient way to fish in this area. This spot on Bastrop Bayou has a 200-foot pier, paved boat ramps, paved parking and lights for night fishing. Speckled troutredfish and croaker are among the most popular caught fish at this location.

Quintana Beach County Park

330 5th Street Quintana, 77541

A pedestrian beach, lighted fishing pier, and access to the west jetty make the Quintana Beach County Park an ideal fishing spot. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend there is a $5.00 parking fee per vehicle for day use access of the park and pedestrian beach. The fishing pier can also be accessed at no charge via 8th Street. Black drum, redfish, ling and Spanish mackerel are just a few of the fish you can catch here.

Surfside Beach Fishing

Surfside Jetty County Park

101 Parkview Road, Surfside Beach, 77541

This is an easy place to go saltwater fishing. The Surfside Jetty is more than half a mile long with a flat surface walkway about five feet above the water. Fishing from this long jetty allows anglers without a boat the chance to tie into fish like redfish, sheephead, shark, spotted sea trout.

The Gulf of Mexico

Freeport, one of the cities that make up the Brazosport Area, is the best choice for deep sea fishing in Texas. Its close proximity to deeper water makes it easy to get offshore more quickly than from most other locations. There are private charter boats available for parties of 6 or less and boats that can accommodate groups up to 24. Deep water species available offshore include red snapper (when in season), grouper, king mackerel, amberjack, dolphin, wahoo, tuna, cobia, as well as many others.
