Being a new parent can be daunting, to say the least.

HoustonNewMoms.com is a free online catalog of resources available in Houston, and was created to make parenting in Houston a little easier. Many moms look forward to the days of taking their little ones to T-ball practice or teaching them how to finger paint, but you don’t need to wait until your baby is walking and talking to have fun together! Houston New Moms is the only website dedicated to helping those with babies and toddlers get out and about to explore Houston. All information comes from families in Houston rather than being directly sponsored from businesses.

The website was created in January of 2016, when after moving to Houston from NYC, Katerina Manoff had lots of questions about where to find activities and services, and no comprehensive list with answers. She searched tirelessly for where to find childcare, stroller-friendly places to walk, breast-feeding support, and more. Once she got her bearings after her daughter was born, she decided to create a one-stop source for all the information she wished she had before. Katerina continues to add recommendations from local moms and families to her own personal findings.

Houston New Moms hopes to one day gather enough funding to offer a Spanish version of the website, and include interactive maps and calendars to make navigating the city more manageable for more families. Join in on the Houston new mom community by reviewing the resources available and contributing your own suggestions! To get you started, we’ve put together a small sampler of the Houston resources you can find at Houston New Moms.

Get in a work out

Houston is home to a wide range of fitness programs to keep you active and healthy. Fit moms Houston focuses on workouts for the postpartum body, Fit4Mom has “Stroller Strides” for babies in strollers, and Big Yoga has a yoga class specifically for toddlers. Houston New Moms has many more options for all times and wallet sizes.

See a museum

Houston is home to many renowned museums, and many of them have free days, as well as baby and toddler centered activities. It can be difficult to keep track of when each of these special days occurs, so Houston New Moms has made it easier. For example, the Children’s Museum, the Museum of Natural Science, the Health Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston are all free for a few hours every Thursday.

Go outside

If you’ve lived in Houston for any amount of time, it’s likely that you’ve heard of Discovery Green or the Nature Arboretum, but did you know that many of those well known locations feature activities for babies and toddlers? The Arboretum has “Tyke Hikes,” Discovery Green has “Toddler Tuesday,” and the Miller Outdoor Theatre has shows specifically for the younger crowd.

Learn together in the library

Houston and Harris County public libraries feature baby time and toddler time. Some locations include bilingual playtime, others have toddler yoga scheduled. Going to the library early in your child’s life can help create positive associations with reading. Take advantage of these free weekly activities with your little one.
