Red, White & Boom At Levy Park
Head over to Levy Park to get a taste of Fort Worth chef and TV personality Tim Love’s cuisine this weekend. The weekend pop-up will give Houstonians a preview of the food they can expect at Love’s upcoming Houston restaurant, Woodshed Smokehouse, which is slated to open in 2018 at Levy Park. Enjoy chopped brisket, bulgogi beef and pork bahn mi tacos, pulled pork sandwiches and more. Pop-up hours are Friday, June 30 from 5 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, July 1 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, July 2 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Patriotic Cookies
Calm your sweet tooth with El Bolillo Bakery’s red, white and blue cookies. Available all weekend at their Airline Dr. location, you’ll want a little taste of these before they sell out. Also available to take home: 4th of July cheesecakes.
Kolache Saturday
Kick off the holiday weekend treating yourself to kolaches at Revival Market’s Kolache Saturday on July 1. This weekend’s flavors are bourbon peach; fig, goat cheese, and ginger; and on the savory side barbecue chicken sausage klobasnek. While you’re there go ahead and pick up provisions for your 4th of July cookout -- think ribs, hot dogs and chicken.
Independence Day Buffet
Saint Arnold Brewing Company will be serving a special Independence Day Buffet for lunch on July 4, featuring chopped brisket, roasted chicken, smoky pork ribs, hot dogs, sides, and pineapple upside down cake. Wash it all down with a beer or two. Cost is $23 and you can reserve online. Do it fast before it fills up.
FM Over Texas
Kick back and enjoy your day off at chef Ryan Hildebrand’s FM Kitchen + Bar. The former Triniti chef’s new restaurant has an expansive outdoor patio with yard games, picnic tables and a lounge area perfect for 4th of July festivities. The party kicks off at 11 a.m. and will feature live music from Muddy Belle, No Rehearsal and DJ Yon Don, plus barbecue plates and drink specials through 8 p.m.
Happy Hour All Day
Looking to celebrate with great drinks? Try Eight Row Flint, which will host an all-day happy hour to celebrate Independence Day. That’s right. Beers will be $3 and cocktails including margaritas, mules and Old Fashioneds will be just $5 from noon to midnight. What’s not to love?
Tacos & Beer
Tacodeli and Platypus Brewing will join forces on July 4 for an evening of celebration. The party starts at 5 p.m. at the adjacent parking lot (1902 Washington), where you’ll enjoy beer, wine, live music, tacos, burgers and sausages. Stay on for a great view of the Freedom Over Texas fireworks in downtown. Speaking of tacos and brews, La Grange is hosting Free Taco Tuesday and Buffalo Bayou Brewing Pint Night on July 4 from 4 to 10 p.m. That means you get a free taco with every drink purchase.
July 4th Hot Dog Feast
Celebrate our nation’s birthday with old-fashioned games, hot dogs and a cobbler eating contest at George Ranch Historical Park. The park in Richmond will host a hot dog buffet with a variety of dogs and sausages, toppings, condiments, and sides so you can eat your heart out on Independence Day. For dessert, enjoy cobbler and ice cream. Reservations are required.
July 4th Brunch
All of chef Hugo Ortega's restaurants— Hugo's, Caracol, Backstreet Café and Xochi — will be serving a la carte brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 4.
