One of the reasons we love Houston is year-round golf, even in January. With temperatures ranging from the low 60s to mid-70s, it's no wonder golf enthusiasts flock to Htown. While golfers in wide swaths of the country were hunkering down amid record snowfall, a quick sampling of Houston-area courses found very brisk business.
“We had 192 golfers out on Sunday, which is really good for a Sunday in January,” said Chuck Silva at Memorial Park Golf Course. “And the driving range was busy all day, too.”
The story was similar at some of the courses in outlying areas.
“We did very well on both days over the weekend,” said Bobby Browne at Stephen F. Austin Golf Course near Sealy. “It was a little windy on Saturday, but we did well.” On the north side, at Cypresswood Golf Course, there wasn’t even a frost delay, a not uncommon occurrence this time of year. “We were busy ALL day long Sunday,” reported pro shop personnel at Cypresswood.
Winter in Houston does have its perks!
