The Owl Bar

Nestled between West U and River Oaks, The Owl Bar bills itself as “Houston’s Best Austin Bar.” Armed with a love for Sixth Street, the bar’s owners sought to create a neighborhood spot known for its eclectic clientele, well-made drinks and live music—an approach that’s held strong since 2010, when The Owl first opened on Kirby. It wasn’t until the bar’s original building was demolished that the neighborhood favorite made the leap to a 1920s farmhouse on West Alabama, reopening in fall 2015.

Inside, exposed brick and a black-and-white checkered floor mix with a large, wrap-around bar and custom furniture from Native Citizen. The space also features a two-sided patio that tempts patrons outside when the weather is nice. Beyond signature cocktails and bottled beer, the new space also enables the owners to add food to the mix. Expect a line-up of wings, burgers and fries, along with wraps, sandwiches and salads.
