The very first edition of the Affordable Art Fair took place in London’s Battersea Park in October 1999. Ten thousand art lovers descended upon the fair to browse and buy thousands of original contemporary paintings, sculptures, photographs and prints in a relaxed and friendly environment. The organizers hold fairs in cities worldwide, including Amsterdam, Austin, Berlin, Boston, Brisbane, Brussels, Hamburg, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, New York, Singapore, Stockholm, Sydney, Vienna, and now Houston. Each year, nearly 280,000 art enthusiasts visit the fairs globally, where they can discover a mix of local, national and international galleries showcasing a wide array of affordable artworks by established artists and rising stars. Since the first fair, over 3.5 million people have visited an Affordable Art Fair around the world, taking home over 640,000 pieces of artwork to loving new homes.

Houston's own gallery community makes up the largest single group at the fair, with 17 local exhibitors representing the depth of the city's art scene. Foltz Fine Art, ELLIO Fine Art, Hooks-Epstein Galleries, Bisong Art Gallery, Koelsch Gallery, Laura Rathe Fine Art, Gallery Sonja Roesch, and Cindy Lisica Gallery will exhibit alongside artist-run spaces and collectives like House of Devi, Print Matters Houston, and Three Studios. The Texas contingent extends well beyond the city limits, with nine Austin galleries plus exhibitors from Dallas, Waco, Wimberley and Comfort.

Houston’s artists will be prominently featured throughout the fair, with artists like Karen Navarro, the Argentine-born, Houston-based photographer and multimedia artist, showing work in the fair's center lounge; Romeo Robinson, a prominent African American painter with Bisong Gallery, whose work has featured in exhibitions at the Houston Museum of African American Culture; Iranian-born Houston maintainer Fariba Abedin, named one of Houston Magazine’s Top 5 Houston Artists, exhibiting with Abedin Fine Art; Brendan Flores’ sculptural installations inspired by the elements can be found throughout the fair, represented by Foltz Fine Art; and Galina Kurlat the fair's debut ad campaign artist - whose work is on show with Main Street Projects.

Timed to Hispanic Heritage Month, the fair spotlights Hispanic and Latin American artists from Houston, Mexico, Argentina, and beyond. Two galleries, Houston's Serrano Gallery and Argentina's AC Latin Art, are presenting rosters made up entirely of artists of Latin or Hispanic origin. From the influence of magical realism, popularized by figures like Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo in Mexico, to themes of identity, materiality, and the natural world, each artist's work connects with and intersects with their Hispanic heritage in unique and fascinating ways.

Check out the works of Alessandra Albin, Alicia Gallardo, and Rolando Rojas (Serrano Gallery); Pedro Blas and Soledad Bence (AC Latin Art); Laura Clay (featured artist, stand A1); Teresa Zimbrón, Luis Moro and Alberto Castro Leñero (La Mercantil), among others.
