Party on the Plaza – Every Wednesday in May and June - Free

One of Houston’s favorites is back, and it’s taking place in Avenida Houston! Party on the Plaza consists of nine weekly concerts in May and June, showcasing local and regional artists from 7-9pm. Enjoy food trucks, DJs, prizes and surprises. Playing in May: Los Skarnales w/ Muddy Belle (5/3), Allen Oldies Band w/ Ruby and the Reckless (5/10), Mango Punch! w/ Gio Chamba (5/17), SoulDig w/ Sherita Perez (5/24), and Nick Gaitan w/ Nico Diaz (5/31).


Middlelands Festival – May 5-7

The Renaissance Festival grounds will transform for an electronic music festival with five stages, camping, performers and over 50 artists to see. Middleland’s first year has already sparked interest and is setting up to be an annual event for years to come.


Houston Dragon Boat Festival – May 6 - Free

For the 17th year, the Houston Dragon Boat Festival will fill Buffalo Bayou with more than 30 corporate and community teams participating in races, while festivities celebrate Asian and Asian-American culture. Come out to Allen’s Landing between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm to experience it all.


Japan Festival Houston – May 6-7 - Free

The Japan Festival celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Japan with traditional and contemporary performances of Japanese music, dance and martial arts. From 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, you’ll find Japanese-inspired food and more, in the Museum District’s Hermann Park.


Comicpalooza – May 12 – 14

For three days, celebrate cosplay, superheroes and more at Comicpalooza! With guests like Chuck Norris and the entire Power Rangers cast, you’re sure to have the time of your life! The convention takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center and is fun for the whole family. 


Galveston Island Beach Revue – May 19 – 21 – Free

Head back in time to the 1920's and early 1930's with the Galveston Island Beach Revue. The event is a celebration of when is island was host to the Pageant of Pulchritude, the predecessor of Miss Universe. Live music, vintage vehicles, vintage swimsuit contests and more will be happening all weekend, concluding with a special vintage baseball game! 


Pasadena Strawberry Festival – May 19-21

If you love strawberries, the Pasadena Strawberry Festival is the place to be this May! Enjoy the carnival, concerts and everything strawberries, including the World’s Largest Strawberry Shortcake. You can get your tickets online or at the door.


Madness on Main Street – May 28 

Head out to Houston’s favorite Independent Music Festival, Madness on Main Street. The multi-stage, multi-genre music festival includes art installations, food trucks and an art market. With one wristband, see over 20 bands on three stages. 


Mummies of the World – Ending May 29th

Since September, 2016, the Houston Museum of Natural Science has showcased its latest exhibit, Mummies of the World. Come face-to-face with the largest collection of real mummies and related artifacts ever assembled. With the exhibit closing this month, be sure to see these amazing items before it’s too late!
