Avelo Airlines has just made it possible
Even if the distance in miles between Connecticut and Houston remains the same, two weekly nonstop flights by Avelo Airlines launched on June 14 between H-Town's William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) and Southern Connecticut's Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) make it much more convenient for leisure and business travelers from Connecticut and surrounding areas to visit and explore Houston, the "New Capital of Southern Cool."
Referring to the City of Houston's Department of Aviation, Houston Airports, Director of Aviation for Houston Airports Jim Szczesniak said, "Houston Airports exists to connect the people, businesses, cultures, and economies of the world to Houston. That's why we are thrilled to welcome Avelo to Hobby Airport. From world-class amenities to Houston-friendly hospitality and an efficient experience from curb to gate, our team at Hobby is ready to welcome even more travelers to the first and only 5-Star Skytrax Airport in North America."
Avelo is the only airline offering nonstop service from Houston to the state of Connecticut. New Haven, Connecticut's second-largest city and part of the New York metropolitan area, looks like a perfect departure point for Houston if you are looking for time—and money-saving convenience. Whether visiting friends and family, enjoying a leisurely vacation, or attending an important business meeting in Houston, Avelo's new route expands your travel options considerably.
Avelo was founded in Houston in 2018 and made its public debut in April 2021 with its first flight from Los Angeles' Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) to the Bay Area's Sonoma County Airport (STS). With that flight, Avelo became America's first new airline in nearly 15 years. The inauguration of the route Houston-New Haven on June 14 marked a significant milestone for Avelo. It was the first flight from their home city of Houston, where the airline's national Support Center (headquarters) is located.
Kelly Woodward, Houston Airports' COO, presents a proclamation to Trevor Yearly of Avelo Airlines on behalf of the City of Houston, proclaiming June 14 as Avelo Airlines Day.
Avelo operates the new route twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays, with Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. Low introductory one-way fares started at $98. Customers can make reservations at AveloAir.com.
Houston said 'Howdy' to Avelo, receiving its first flight with a traditional water cannon salute and proclaiming June 14 as Avelo Airlines Day. 'Howdy' also goes to all travelers from Connecticut's Tweed-New Haven Airport. They will feel delighted arriving in Houston via William P. Hobby Airport, not only the first and only 5-Star Skytrax-rated airport in North America but also voted Best Regional Airport in North America by passengers in 2024. Located minutes from downtown, near all major sports venues and shopping districts, Hobby is a convenient gateway to start enjoying America's fourth-largest city, a cosmopolitan destination filled with world-class hotels, dining, arts, shopping, and nightlife.
