If you wake up to the pitter-patter sound of rain, you may think “there’s nothing to do today.” Although Houston has many excellent outdoor attractions, there are just as exciting opportunities to escape the rain and have fun doing it.

Museum-hopping

When the weather is wet, it’s a great opportunity to see many of the museums in Houston! The Houston Museum District includes great options like the Children’s Museum, Museum of Fine Art, Museum of Natural Science, Contemporary Craft and more. 19 cultural institutions within walking distance! Whether you want to pack an umbrella or take a short drive to each one, you’ll be able to fill your day and experience new things.

Go see a show

Head downtown to the Houston Theater District where you will find 17 blocks of world-class performance venues and organizations. Catch the Houston Ballet or Opera at a performance in Wortham Theater Center or the Houston Symphony in Jones Hall. The Hobby Center brings Off-Broadway productions, while Alley Theatre and Bayou Place bring unique performances, concerts and more. You can also park within the underground Theater District Parking, with access to many venues without stepping foot in the rain!

Bollywood Blast - Miller Outdoor Theater

Downtown isn’t the only place to find great shows, explore the Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston (MATCH), Main Street Theater, the Queensbury Theatre and more!

Time to shop

A rainy day is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of shopping options in Houston. You’ll find excellent shopping locations in River Oaks, Rice Village and along Westheimer, or spend hours inside The Galleria, finding that new look. The nation’s fourth-largest mall is an oasis for your usual brands and high-end fashion, while an indoor ice rink will take your experience to a new level. Go from store to store, bargain shopping on Harwin Drive, or shop at one of many art galleries

Feast the day away

One of the best ways to spend a rainy day is with food and friends. Houston has over 10,000 restaurants with over 70 cultures represented, many award-winning restaurants and iconic Houston meals. Find yourself the best BBQ, burger, or celebrate the day with one of our favorite frozen treats.
