West Houston welcomed the fourth El Rey outpost in 2008, serving some of the most flavorful Cuban/Mexican cooking on the scene.
The popular fast foot spot draws a loyal, but diverse following of west Houston residents and workers looking for a jump start on the day or a mid-day bite. Set in the Village Plaza—near Sushi Pop, H-E-B and My Fit Foods—the interior is a definite and spacious deviation from the other locations. Black-and-white Havana-themed pictures hang on the walls, shiny chrome stools line the bar and an open kitchen lets customers watch the culinary action.
Still, the food remains consistent. Cuban coffee and flavorful chorizo tacos accented by refried beans, egg and a fiery red salsa, draw the breakfast crowd, while lime-tinged tortilla soup and cuban tacos keep them coming the rest of the day.
El Rey is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
