Blink and you might miss Roostar Vietnamese Grill. Set in Spring Branch, along Gessner Road, the hole in the wall restaurant might not look special from the outside, but inside, the crowd knows better. Previously known as Vietnam Poblano, the wallet-friendly Vietnamese shop has risen to fame among Houston foodies that can’t stop raving about the BBQ pork banh mi, alphabet soup and vermicelli bowls.
Although parking can be dicey, the authentic banh mis are worth the wait, loaded with marinated meats, pickled vegetables and fresh garlic aioli—all of which are made in house. (If you’re feeling wild, order like a regular and add a fried egg on top.) Of course, you don’t have to take our word for it, Roostar was named 2015 Best Banh Mi by Houston Press and one of the Top 100 Places to Eat in the U.S. by Yelp.
Roostar is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
