A seat at the chef’s table? At James Beard Award winner Justin Yu’s new restaurant, the answer is always yes! Although they are booked solid weeks ahead of time, Houston’s hottest new restaurant, Theodore Rex, will keep several tables and seats at the bar open for walk-in diners.
The a la carte menu at Theodore Rex changes weekly, but a few of Chef’s favorites, like, pan con tomate, will remain on the menu for the foreseeable future. This delicacy begins with a thick slice of browned pain de mie that’s brushed with tomato water and topped with tomato fondant and a salad of fresh tomatoes.
Another menu highlight includes a cut of Texas wagyu beef served with fermented radish and dandelion greens. In addition, some limited quantity dishes like a whole roasted pork collar or braised grouper cheeks will appear as they are available. Guests will also appreciate a curated and lengthy list of affordably-priced wines.
Theodore Rex’s dining area is an intimate space with a few tables, and a cozy booth or two, padded with soft, inviting cushions and pillows. Located near downtown, the restaurant is open for dinner service 5-10 pm, Thursday through Sunday and closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
