Hobby Airport/Third-Ward Things To Do

Third Ward has undergone a cultural renaissance that feels new but holds onto its roots. A perfect example is Emancipation Park, a 10-acre park commemorating the end of slavery, which in 2017 was updated with a new community center, playground, pool and picnic areas.

The arts’ scene is thriving in this neighborhood with spots like Project Row Houses. The site covers five city blocks and houses almost 40 structures dedicated to a variety of community enriching initiatives and art programs.

Additionally, there is The Orange Show Center for Visionary Arts, an organization focusing on making art accessible to the public. The outdoor 3,000-square-foot environment includes an oasis, a wishing well, a pond, a stage, a museum and gift shop. They are also responsible for putting on one of Houston’s most beloved and creative events, the Houston Art Car Parade.

Other attractions worth noting, although not related, are the Under the Radar Brewery, one of Houston’s very own craft beer breweries, and the 1940 Air Terminal Museum, an educational center for promoting the city's significant civil aviation history.
