Treat Her To A Performance
Mother’s Day weekend in Houston is filled with exciting performances for moms who love the arts. Pack up a picnic and take her to one of three free performances (May 11-13) of the Houston Ballet’s “Don Quixote” at Miller Outdoor Theatre. Don’t mind splurging? Surprise her with tickets to see the award-winning musical, Hamilton, showing at the Hobby Center.
Theater loving moms may enjoy a visit to the Alley Theatre to see comedian Steve Martin’s play, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” which contemplates what Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso may have discussed when they meet at a bar in Paris in 1904.
If music is more to her liking, the Houston Symphony’s “Brahms & Sibelius” concert and the “Mother’s Day Serenade” by the Houston Latin American Philharmonic will delight your mom.
Spend A Day At The Museum
On May 13, moms get free admission to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and its two ticketed exhibits, Peacock in the Desert: The Royal Arts of Jodhpur, India and Michelangelo and the Vatican: Masterworks from the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, Naples. Mom also gets free admission to Bayou Bend and Rienzi so she can enjoy its beautiful gardens, art and history.
Take Her Shopping
Houston has endless opportunities when it comes to shopping, but if your mom loves a little retail therapy, skip the mall and head over to these local markets. Stop by the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft on May 12 and 13 for Two Of a Kind: Pop-Up Earring Sale, which features an array of fine, unique and beautifully crafted earrings, plus bubbly and refreshments. On May 12, shop for baked goods, gifts and crafts at the Heights Mercantile Mother’s Day Market.
Enjoy Afternoon Tea
