Looking to do something different with Dad this Father’s Day? H-Town has many fun and unique activities perfect for the whole family or for father-daughter and father-son outings. If you don’t have plans yet for Sunday, June 17, here’s a list of fun things to do for Father’s Day in Houston. From free museum exhibits to brewery barbecues, there’s something for every Dad to love.
Go Fishing
Kids will love spending a day with Daddy at the ranch. Oil Ranch, just outside of Houston, is celebrating fathers with tons of activities on Saturday, June 16, including Daddy and Me Fishing. Bring your pole, bait and tackle for catch and release fishing at Lake Buenas Noches. Then, learn to rope a calf, go paintball shooting, swim, meet and feed the cows and play golf at Ol’ MacDonald’s Putt Putt golf course. See where else you can fish in Houston.
Brews, ‘Cue and Mudbugs
Choose from one of Houston’s many breweries and take Dad out for some beer, live music, food and a good, relaxing time. City Acre Brewing is hosting a Father’s Day Feast on June 17 for all the pops out there. For $18.95, get a barbecue plate, two beers and an amazing time. If crawfish is more his thing, head to Southern Star Brewing for a day of live music, fresh crawdads, cold beer, painting classes and loads of fun!
You can also treat Pops to a cookout for a good cause. I’ll Have What She’s Having, an organization of women in hospitality that raises awareness and funds to support women’s health, is teaming up with Camerata, for its First Annual Father’s Day Cookout. Enjoy brisket, pork, wines, beers, and cocktails and live entertainment in this family-friendly event at Last Concert Cafe.
Have A Whimsical Picnic
Invite Dad to an Alice In Wonderland picnic at Evelyn’s Park. Pick some salads, tacos, flatbreads and more at The Ivy & James, the quaint little café at the park, and grab a seat at the table with Alice, the March Hare, the Cheshire Cat, the Dormouse and the Mad Hatter. These characters and their tea party scene, complete with table and seating for six to eight additional guests, were sculpted by local artist Bridgette Mongeon in honor of the 150th anniversary of this classic novel. While you eat, see who can find more of the 150 hidden objects within the Move One Place On sculpture.
Watch Some Fútbol (Soccer)
Dad’s special day lands on the very first weekend of the 2018 World Cup, so if your Dad loves the beautiful game, take him out to watch one of the matches scheduled for June 17. Brazil plays against Switzerland, Costa Rica against Serbia and at 10 a.m. Mexico faces off with Germany. Several local bars and pubs, such as El Big Bad, The Richmond Arms Pub, and Bar Munich, will be showing the games so you can watch along with other fans.
Spend A Day At The Museum
For fathers and grandfathers who love art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is offering free admission on Father’s Day. Enjoy everything the museum has to offer with family and friends. You can start the day with BBQ brisket, wings, eggs and more from the buffet brunch at the MFA Café. Then head over to the museum’s exhibits and starting at 1 p.m., visit Rienzi and Bayou Bend for special Father’s Day events. At 5 p.m., catch a screening of a new thriller, Western, back at the museum. More Houston museums.
Break A Sweat
Break a sweat with Dad at the No Label 1st Street 5k. Held one day before Father’s Day (June 16), this run takes you from No Label Brewery through the streets of Katy and back to the brewery for cold brews until 10 a.m. Who said Dad can’t have a beer for breakfast?
