Dad has been looking forward to Father’s Day all year long. Instead of a tie or handkerchief, how about a great father-son or father-daughter experience instead? Houston has a playground of activities on deck for Sunday, June 16, that’ll help create memories to last a lifetime.

Museums Galore

There are plenty of restaurants around Houston offering deals on meals for Dad’s special day, but the Father’s Day Brunch at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum has a smorgasbord of activities. Tickets include brunch, live entertainment, an exotic car show, a motorcycle showcase, cigars, a tour of the museum, health providers on site for men and more. The brunch takes place on Father’s Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, will celebrate Dad with a special Father’s Day at Bayou Bend event where visitors can explore the beautiful grounds and collection of American art and paintings and enjoy complimentary lemonade and refreshments. There will be a variety of old school games available to play with the kids. Check out other museums to see what else is in store for the weekend.

Outdoor Fun

The Oil Ranch has a whole schedule of activities for dads and kids on Saturday, June 15. Bring your own pole, bait, and tackle for an afternoon of catch and release fishing at Lake Buenas Noches. Bond Over Brews

The greater Houston area has over two dozen breweries, where you can take Dad for live music and great food. City Acre Brewing hosts its annual Father’s Day Feast on June 16, where dad can enjoy a plate of Texas barbeque, beer, yard games and more, for $18.95. If your pop is more into the art scene, check out Father’s Day Brews and Art at Karbach Brewing Company. In addition to tossing back some suds, there will be a vintage and art market featuring local artisans.

If an old-fashioned cookout is more of Dad’s speed, check out the Daddy of All POPups, which is the second annual Father’s Day event hosted by the I’ll Have What She’s Having organization. The event features live music, a silent auction, food, and beer. Proceeds from the event benefit help fund preventative medical care for uninsured food and beverage professionals.

Hang with the ‘Stros

What’s a day out with Dad without a little sports thrown in? Hang out with the Astros for their game against the Toronto Blue Jays, and enjoy a few extras thrown in thanks to a special Father’s Day weekend add-on package. On Friday, June 14, the pregame event, Baseball on Tap, features beer tastings, live music and a souvenir for dad before the game. Fans can get a special blue Astros replica jersey, an Astros River Hat or an Astros Hawaiian shirt replica jersey.

Break a Sweat

Lace up your sneakers for a good run to kick off some time with Dad at the annual No Label Brewing 1st Street 5K Beer Run. The race happens Saturday, June 15 from 8 – 11 a.m., and it’s not just for dads. The whole family is welcomed. After crossing the finish line, runners will get access to the No Label tasting room to sample up to four craft beers as well as a glass souvenir and a shirt. Food trucks will be on site for those cheering on the runners.

With so many options in Houston, this is sure to be one Father’s Day dear old dad won’t soon forget.
