State Fare Kitchen & Bar leans fully into big Texas comfort food energy, and the burgers are no exception. Expect towering creations built with specialty beef patties, rich toppings and plenty of Southern influence. These are the kinds of burgers that require both hands and several napkins.

Squable’s French Cheeseburger delivers a more elevated take on burger night without losing the fun. The restaurant pairs a stout beef patty with raclette cheese, butter and pickles, all served alongside crispy fries. It feels equal parts European bistro and neighborhood comfort food favorite.

One of the most unexpected burger finds in Houston might be hiding at Molina’s Cantina. What started as a kids menu item quietly became an off-menu favorite among regulars, and now the cheeseburger has built a following of its own. The burger stacks double beef patties with melty American cheese and classic toppings, while Molina’s signature carrot escabeche adds a tangy kick that keeps people coming back.

 Known primarily for barbecue, The Pit Room also happens to make a seriously solid cheeseburger. For National Burger Day, the restaurant is offering a $10 combo featuring a wood-grilled cheeseburger topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo, served with fries and a non-alcoholic drink. Bayou Heights Bier Garten keeps things classic with a Texas grass-fed beef cheeseburger topped with sharp cheddar, sautéed onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles and house Texas dressing for $17. Guests looking to fully commit to the experience can add brisket or pork belly, because in Houston, more meat is always a reasonable option.

If you want a burger closer to the coast, take a drive toward Galveston to Pier 6 where the burger comes with waterfront views and serious steakhouse credentials thanks to Chef Joe Cervantez’s background in premium beef. The Pier 6 Burger features double Akaushi beef patties smashed and layered with American cheese, pickles and sriracha mayo, all served with fries.
