A Mother’s Day Brunch

Nothing beats taking your mother out for a delicious meal, especially when it’s brunch. Many local restaurants offer excellent specials to start Mother’s Day off right. The Omni Houston Hotel offers an exclusive meal, along with the Houstonian and Hotel Granduca. Sambuca’s Mother’s Day Brunch includes live music from the Houston Jazz Trio. For a Spanish twist on the day, Picos Restaurant in Upper Kirby offers regional offerings like moles, pozoles and tamales. 


The Museum of Fine Arts Houston collection of attractions are celebrating mothers with special programming, discount prices and gift ideas for mothers and grandmothers. The Museum of Fine Arts, located in the Museum District, offers many temporary exhibitions like Ron Mueck’s sculptures, while Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens offers discount admission to their gorgeous gardens. Rienzi is a free museum that showcases a historic and architecturally-gorgeous estate situated on four acres of wooded gardens. 

Music and Theatre

St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church is opening its doors for an afternoon of jazz, which childcare provided! Bring your own beer, wine or champagne and listen to jazz from local artists from 5:00 – 6:30 pm. Head down to Buffalo Bayou to experience the sound and lights of Rain: Madgalenda Fernandez at the Houston Cistern, an underground art installation. Take your mother out to Alley Theatre for A View from the Bridge, or catch Crique du Soleil at the Sam Houston Race Park. 

A Day for your Hero

Mother’s Day weekend includes the celebration of comics, heroes and villains at Comicpalooza! Friday through Sunday, take mom to see guests like Chuck Norris, stars of “The Flash” and more, while playing games and watching roller derby or wrestling!  The entire George R. Brown Convention Center will be filled with celebrities, informational panels and games for all ages. 

High Tea for Mother

Treat your mother to the high-class English culture of Afternoon Tea. McHugh Tea Room offers a wide selection of over 60 organic teas from around the world, with sandwiches, scones and small deserts to match. Head to Kiran’s Restaurant for a multi-course experience: samosas paired with masala chai, followed by classic and Indian-inspired finger sandwiches, paired Darjeeling tea, and ending with scones and desserts.
