New Year's Eve in Houston
The countdown to the New Year (and the new decade) is on, and Houston-area establishments are getting ready for all the revelry. Whether you want to get a little wild with friends or stick to more family-friendly celebrations, here are some options to help you close out 2019 and welcome 2020!
Grab the kids and get the party started at the CITYCENTRE Noon Year’s Eve celebration. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., everyone can enjoy face painting, a balloon and caricature artist, bubbles and a magic mirror photo booth, all against the background of great music from a local DJ. After you put the kids to bed, head over to CITYCENTRE’s annual New Year’s Eve Party. The fun starts at 9:30 p.m. with a live musical performance from the band A Sure Thing. Count down to midnight with a confetti shower and a rooftop fireworks show.
Add a little intrigue and mystique to your celebration at Bisou’s New Year’s Eve Masquerade dinner. Diners will have a choice of three- four- or five-course meals prepared by French Master Chef Frédéric Perrier. A live DJ will also be hand with music to set the atmosphere. Reservations are required.
All That Glitters 5: A New Year’s Eve Party 2020
Head to Rice Village for an epic New Year’s Eve bash: All that Glitters 5. Come dressed to hit the red carpet as you enter the block party that spans three venues: Lumen, Crimson and On the Kirb. Inside, you’ll enjoy a buffet, complimentary drinks, hookahs, a full wine bar, balloon drops, confetti cannons, six DJs, go go dancers and so much more.
A New Year’s Eve parade and shimmering ball drop will bring delight to the kids in your family at the Children’s Museum Rockin’ New Year’s Noon celebration. The family-friendly event kicks off at 10 a.m., with a countdown to the New Year at the stroke of noon. The fun wraps up at 3 p.m. Admission is included with general admission to the museum.
High Noon Countdown at The Woodlands Children’s Museum
Just north of Houston will be the High Noon Countdown at The Woodlands Children’s Museum. Kids will celebrate the New Year with fun hats, creative art projects, bubble wrap dancing and a balloon drop at noon. Tickets are $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
What better way to ring in the New Year than at the Downtown Aquarium? Besides admiring the beautiful array of tropical fish, families will experience fun kids’ activities including a balloon drop, dance party and appearances by mascots Sharkey and Nero. A buffet, contests and giveaways are also part of the fun, which takes place 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
If eating, drinking or dancing isn’t for you, a night out rooting for the home team is a great option for New Year’s Eve. Cheer from the stands as the Houston Rockets host the Denver Nuggets at Toyota Center. The game tips off at 6 p.m., and tickets start at $33.
Channel your favorite Great Gatsby character and head over to Spanish tapas restaurant, MAD, for their Roaring 1920’s themed New Year’s Eve celebration. A live DR, dancing, hors d’oeuvres and champagne toast are all in addition to dinner. A prix fixe menu as well as a vegan option will be available.
For a swanky, stylish New Year’s Eve, head over to Hotel Derek for their Black and white Electric Ball. The party will feature several bars, lite bites, and DJs playing both old school and contemporary favorites.
